Ghastly. Totally changes the ending which undermines the entire message of the novel. Adds 'romance' scenes that are not only wildly inaccurate and inappropriate (the decorous Anne Elliot running down the lanes of Bath and snogging Captain Wentworth in the street? Not even Lydia Bennet would do that!) but soooo awkward and saliva filled. Noooooo. Rupert Penry-Jones is gorgeous, the sets are lovely, and as expected, excellent acting from Alice Krige, Anthony Head, etc. but really, we need a good film/tv adaptation of this novel, stat! The Amanda Root one from 1995 is authentic but needs updating.
