I’m only halfway through and I’m struggling to keep going.
1. The acting is bad.
2. The CGI is sub par.
3. The writing is bad.
4. The action is mediocre.
5. They are trying too hard to be shocking.
I think you need to be an angsty teenager to find this entertaining. While the Boys had amazing character development, acting, and storylines; Gen V is the exact opposite of that. It’s so painfully forced with dry dialogue and you can tell even the actors don’t believe what they are saying.
The Boys included subtle satire of human behavior and how it parallels with American culture. The characters in the boys carried their own deep metaphor of what we see in people of our everyday lives and exploits raw human emotion. The characters, cinematography, acting, and everything about the Boys was a masterpiece. Gen V is the exact opposite of this, it is right in your face. It has gratuitous violence and weird creepy sex things for no reason like this guy that can tell if people are lying but for some reason has to have sex with inanimate objects like all the time. The characters are unlikable and boring.
One girl has bulima powers, one girl can only use her powers by cutting herself, one they/them has the power to be gender fluid which I still don’t quite understand why they/them is so strong. She beats the strongest popular joch kid fairly easily, like they weren’t even that worried about the fight with supposedly the strongest super hero at the school. Pretty much this show was made for your 14 year old that thinks they are deep… They try to add some Boys elements, poorly… and sometimes you might see a cameo that has little to no relevance to the plot.
I’m giving this 2 stars only because I can see the target audience and it’s not me. It’s so bad that I actually am embarrassed I’ve watched as much as I did. They should have made it a stand alone series and not associated with the Boys as it can only ruin the main story for people that actually like The Boys.
