Content wise; The only takeaway was to take people at their face value. Recognize the red flags when you see them waving. Maybe stereotyping does work?
The film succeeds on one level but fails on others. Sex, violence and revenge has always been a formula for success. In this film it gives that particular audience a dynamo.
As In typical American filmmaking, it has a beginning, a middle and an end. The characters are portrayed superficially, there is no depth. The storyline is never developed, it takes you to a place you have seen many times before. It is pulp fiction at it’s best and worst.
The film satisfies a primitive need from a safe distance. If violence for violence sake is your thing, you should go for it. But, if you are looking for something thought provoking, you will not find it here. When the film ends, you will not be any more or less wiser for watching it.
Except, you may not have to think too hard about which candidate they might have voted for in 2016. I guess I’m stereotyping?
