The premise of this movie sounded weak from the start to me but I thought, with 2 actors at the level of Sean Penn & Dakota Johnson, there must be something more to it. Nope!
As a woman it was difficult to watch this movie with so much sexualized focus on Dakota’s character - close-ups of her touching her lips several times, never revealing her name, showing her texts where she gives into having phone sex even tho she wasn’t into it - all done to portray her as the “toy” Sean’s character wants every woman to be. He only sees her as a human being when she reveals a sad & deeply personal event at the end.
The one scene I was hoping would inject something meaningful into this movie (when they pass the aftermath of a terrible accident) did nothing! It was only added to prolong what should’ve been a 30 min car ride into a full movie that should never have been made!
Shame on Sean P & Dakota J for taking on this crappy, cliche film!
