I finally got around to watch 'Aftersun' and man oh man, the film just dug a forever hole in my heart. The constant strife with oneself to not let your demons show infront of your child, to the whole full circle moment when the child grows up to realise that sometimes, we do remember different versions of our parents, the film in itself is a masterpiece to be watched and re watched, discussed and cried at for its poignant portrayal of love, depression and loss.
That one scene, amongst many, where young Sophie, lies in bed and tells her dad, how sometimes even after spending a great fun day we come home and just feel sad or tired and low, while listening to his daughter's thoughts the realisation dawns upon Callum that he might have passed his depression to his daughter, the subsequent disgust that takes over, where although he tries reassuring Sophie, but mostly himself that they are here to have a good time, but just ends up spitting his disgust for himself and the disease on the mirror, is a scene that made me sink into the seat. Watch it at your own risk.
