This isn't a remake, but a successor to the OG trilogy, so no qualms there.
Overall, this just did not have the same laugh factor that the originals had, or frankly, most other spoof comedies have. The theater was pretty polite through the entire movie. Few loud laughs here and there, but overall, most of the jokes fell flat and only some hit the mark.
Pamela Anderson was great. Liam Neeson is a decent choice for the role. He has a similar feel to Nielson, enough to play the part. The sidekick? None of his gags landed.
First off, the writing/film focuses too much on Neeson's action movie past. The action scenes are over the top to be sure, but they simply weren't funny, and there were *a lot of them*. Just pure and basic bad-ass punch outs. Many people are saying the jokes were over the top, but really, it feels like they were too tame or too simple. The absurdity was there, going hard for some sequences, but then there are just long periods of nothingness. The dialogue is lacking a lot of the word-play jokes and similar. And the plot? Not overly important for a spoof film, but the plot of this was what felt "over the top" and not in an absurd or funny way. The entire plot boiled down to two jokes: P.L.O.T. Device and Weird Al.
It just felt lacking.
