The plot at first seems rather simplistic, but the further along I read the more I was drawn into the concept of the book. By the time I had reached page 100 I was so intrigued that there was no going back. The storyline moves swiftly without a lot of decorative prose and for that I’m grateful. David, the main protagonist starts out as a rather nondescript character who begins to come into his own once his purpose in life is revealed. His aunt Gen and mentor Jess bring the whole magical aspect of the story to life. It’s a little dark, a little more political and certainly much more interesting than I anticipated. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
