When you see a star from BSG (Katee Sackhoff) take the lead in another sci-fi show, you instantly get interested and dive right in! Well, after watching 7 episodes, my frustration with this show gets to the boiling point and I have to turn it off. Like most other reviewers have commented, this cast is like they literally checked off every single box for the most diverse crew they could find and threw them on a ship. Plus, for some crazy reason, people die and there's always the perfect person for the next job ready to be awakened out of SOMA sleep, how is that even possible?
As well, in every single episode, there seems to be a life threatening problem with the ship. I'm in Episode 7 and they still haven't arrived at their destination, much less crossed the "Black Matter". We have problems with an alien virus, the ship becoming damaged, food shortage, oxygen shortage, the ships AI being damaged. The crew just hops from one disaster to another in every episode.
Scenes cut from one to another with no sense of continuity - for instance, in one scene, were watching a heartwarming dialogue between Erik and his daughter, then cut to a lovemaking scene on the ship between August and Oliver.
Erik's daughter, Jana, interrupts every plot point! She seems to be more of a nuisance than anything else. When you see her on screen, you just know there is going to be yet another scene of fatherly platitudes and promises made and not kept, with no direction with the script. I mean, if you completely cut her out of the show, you wouldn't really be missing much (and you'd save yourself probably an episodes worth of time in the process).
In the end, this show is disappointing. Go in with super LOW expectations and you might be able to get through it without punching the monitor.
