There are parts of this book that were very compelling. There was some well executed horror in this book but it dragged out the torment of its characters in a way that felt unrelenting and voyeuristic. I don’t think I would be able to reread.
I don’t mind violence or horror but this one did make me feel a bit squeamish
I also didn’t love the native storyline. It felt like it veirs into appropriation, especially with the native characters being like most of the characters not great was just :/
That being said the narrative is pretty satisfying. I woulda liked a love story in the end I think.
For me it felt well written but not particularly enjoyable but I wouldn’t be surprised if to hear it appealed to others.
it was refreshing to see the good characters come from unexpected places,
I probably would pick up more from the author with the caveat that the premise was one that I was already interested in.
