I love all AMS books. While this is my least favourite series that is only because the others are so very exceptional. The characters in the Von Igelfeld series are always entertaining and their interactions are both hilarious and touching. This small microcosm in Academia bristles with sensitive egos and a pecking order that forever buckles and bends as dramas unfold. The caring librarian's tales of his aunt's nursing home potentially expose him to scorn especially in this rarefied atmosphere, yet quietly echo the bizarre hierarchical issues plagueing this hallowed institution. As so often happens in an AMS book kindness and understanding triumph over pettiness and pomposity and untoward machinations.
A lovely light, quick and quirky read.
