While David A. Robertson appears to be a thoughtful and well-intentioned author, The Barren Grounds fell short of expectations in our classroom. The narrative felt derivative - evoking strong parallels to The Chronicles of Narnia, but lacked the same depth and engagement. Unfortunately, my students consistently expressed disinterest during our novel study, which speaks volumes about its overall impact.
