Meh.
For an action movie it was boring.
*spoilers*
I think this movie tried to be too clever for what is was supposed to be. It tried to be John Wick and ended up being something else. Something bad. And the melodrama!
A dead child, a kidnapped child, a child soldier and another child (as motivation for the bodyguard/ second in command / other guy.) Please stop hitting me over the head with your THEMES!
Should have stuck to being a straight up action movie.
On that point, the fight scenes were ultra violent and bloody and almost video game like. Too rich for my blood but executed brilliantly. The director had a real understanding of fight choreography and the actors performed their stunts well.
The camera work was gimicky and had a number of superlong one shots, clearly intending to bring the viewer "into" the situation. Instead I found the intention too obvious and was therefore completely taken out of the story. (Again trying to be clever and cool).
The handheld camera work made me dizzy.
Plotpoints were laughably easy to predict so there were no tension or suspense. In fact, the opening scene already gave the inevitable conclusion away, so what was the point of the movie?
And when the "friend" turned on them, all I could think was "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
And why on earth wouldn't they take 15 minutes to disguise that boy better? With all those girls running around with headscarves, you couldn't think of something a little more subtle than a baseball cap?
If I was a Bangladeshi I would be fuming right now with how the city was portrayed.
I'm dissapointed in the movie. I wanted a sharp, well executed action movie with a touch of intellect and got a depressing, drawn out murder spree that tried to think too hard and ended in Gladiator, complete with dreamy visions of dead people.
