I’m sitting at a 2 star, I’m playing this game trying to focus on both the good and the bad and I’ll try to give my best explanation for this…
Campaign- the campaign can be described as fairly plain. Almost confusing as of right now. As I play through it, I’m finding more questions than answers. Characters that were dead, are alive. Enemies now friends. No explanation at the beginning for how/why that is. The only good thing I can really give the campaign so far is the mechanics of moving/stealth. But even then I feel as though I’m missing the core aspect of the Call of Duty story experience. The gritty and captivating parts. I find myself often bored with the game. Like enemies are just plopped in a large world with some dialogue in a very Warzone-style manner. What happened to the good Call of Duty campaigns that were given to us in MW19 and MW2? I’ll give them points for the concept, as it could be better if executed the right way.
Multiplayer- I’ve had the most fun here. Weapon unlocks aren’t as ridiculously tedious as in MW2, movement mechanics are great. Weapon mechanics feel nice. Old maps, revamped, giving us that classic CoD multiplayer experience with new weapons and equipment and a much more modern experience. The multiplayer is mildly nostalgic (minus the voice chat being virtually dead since the addition of voice chat monitoring, nobody wants to take a risk it seems lol), and the TTK is perfect (in my opinion). The multiplayer is what I find myself being stuck to the most.
Zombies- Zombies isn’t necessarily trash, but it’s not quite good either. I’m very conflicted here. You have an almost Tarkov style inventory system. Weapons and gear you exfil with are yours, if you die you lose them. Simple. The goal is to move from the outside of the map, to the inside, and you have about an hour to do so. Again, very Warzone-styled. Looting boxes, crates, duffel bags, etc., while gathering intel and learning about the MWZ story. As you get closer to the center the threat level increases and zombies become greater in both strength and numbers. However, still, they didn’t give us that core CoD zombies feel and whereas the idea is actually really cool, the execution was not so great. I’m giving them points for this being their first zombies experience and it being a fairly new concept to the zombies experience. And I do feel as though they could improve it with some time and actual effort, but so far, activision has not had a reputation of listening to their community, and just kind of does what they want.
Overall, to summarize, campaign I give a 1 star
Multiplayer I’ll give a 4 star
Zombies I give a 2 star
It’s like a Call of Duty experiment, not as much a Call of Duty experience and I do feel as though I wasted money even buying this on sale :/
