First let me say my review will be in 2 parts. The first part will cover the show and the second will cover its appeal to the wheel of time fanbase.
First part is for those unfamiliar or entering the wheel of time universe it should be know that this show has amazing graphics and actors as well as some pretty solid script and ability to convey the use of magic without it being boring. Now the show has decided dump alot on you quickly which I enjoy but may not be for every one.
Second, is where my problem lies with the show. This contains some spoilers so please read at your own risk. The first problem lies in the fact that the world in which the story lies in is a amazingly diverse and inclusive place. I dont mind that they tried to make the main cast more diverse but to do so with out some alteration to the story is sloppy. The village they come from is almost completely untouched from the outworld for hundreds of years. This would lead to a single ethnic or racial group. This is also what would cue moraine into rand as he had different colored hair and ethnicity. Again not a problem if you want to make the cast more diverse, I do have a problem with lazy writing. Also and more importantly trying to include a female as a possible dragon is stupid. Now before you say I'm misogynistic let me say why. The male side of the power is the tainted side which is why they hunt down male sedai. Females can't be a dragon because the prophecies relating to the dragon discuss the taint and how he will struggle with it. This is not getting into many other factors at play but just the basic ones. The women in this universe are at bare minimum equal partners if not seen as having more power when talking national or queendom scale. So why they had to force a woman to possibly be a dragon reborn makes no sense. (Again for all the fans you know more of the reasons why a dragon must be male)... now it should be said if they wanted to remove gender from the two sources of power (they didnt) then it could be done but would need a massive rewrite. SO again I'm blaming sloppy lazy writers who wanted to earn points with certain movements...
The issue here is if this show wanted to remain as well written and interesting as the original story then they need to make sure their changes have a back story that can be woven into the fabric of the world. I know thats alot to ask but its also completely necessary if they want people to love and cherish it as much as the original readers.
My score has more to do with how they adapted it and the changes they made to main plot lines and story elements without taking the time to ensure they made sense.
