Only 5 episodes in but absolute masterpiece, 10/10 recommend.
I can see why people didnt like the DEI and initially, i had the same reaction to the trailer. However, the producers made it very clear that this adaptation respects the characters’ original models, whilst at the same time effectively adding a spin to it. All the criminals are well-designed, being completely original yet not failing to give a sense of familiarity to these characters. It feels like being re-introduced to an old friend you haven't seen in a long time - you used to know them, and now you need to learn more about them.
The stories are also very original. Its not completely unpredictable, but manages to give you a sense of awe and surprise. You get to see every single villain and show their reasons for committing crime. Note here: reason, not justification. The story makes it very clear the villains are doing something wrong.
Personally, i also really like the technology dialing way back (like they still use rotary phones) which gives us more focus on Batman’s detective side rather than his combat abilities and reliance of gadgets, which is a part of Batman’s character modern adaptations tend to forget/ignore.
Ig the only part of the adaptation is that Alfred is referred to as “Pennyworth” which felt a bit weird growing up knowing bruce sees alfred as a father…. but I can live with that. (Also please dont put babs and bruce together we all know where it goes)
