I am disappointed with this show. The pace is fast. The characters are bland there is no depth in acting. The major astronomical event like universe winking is taken lightly. The novel is a science fiction not interpersonal drama yet this show feels like just bunch of friends having their personal issues . The major technological, astronomical and physics related science concepts are cut off or skipped. The entire science is dumbed down. It is evident that the show runners themselves do not understand the scientific concepts and they assumed the general public will not either or won’t care. And this is exactly my problem with this show. Ye Wenje is the most important character in the first book. She is smart ,complex emotional , a traumatized soul yet has hint of innocence. She ages with grace and charm and coldness in her heart. This show fails to depict that. When Ye Wenje answers the call by that point she has lost all hope for humanity. This show not only fails to show her backstory , but actually indicates that just because she met her father’s killer she got enraged and out of spite decided to answer the call. Really? Such an extremely crucial decision impacting humanity on one encounter? Rather than the build up of everything and everyone she faced that led to her decision to push the button. Ah reminds me of a similar mediocre disappointment in the last season of another series that was ruined by these showrunners. I am sure there are many people out there who liked it , and for each their own, I respect that. But this is definitely a white washed, dumbed down ‘western world to the rescue from communism ‘ DEI drama. People who are stating that there is nothing wrong with DEI cast fail to acknowledge that the book is based in China, the characters are hardcore Chinese. It’s like remaking black panther but in Britain with DEI Wakanda and a white black panther . Get it? It’s an insult to the Chinese culture that you are showing cultural revolution ,the bad part , in China but then the good part the problem solving is happening in western world.
