For those complaining it rips off “Aces High” please note that “Journey’s End” was written in 1928 and “Aces High” was released in 1976. It is “Aces High” that ripped off “Journey’s End”.
It is also not ‘slow and plodding’ but a superb insight into the more frequently experienced tedium and time-dragging that filled most of the time in the trenches. It was not four years of back-to-back combat, but days, weeks, and months of noting, punctuated by death and destruction.
The atmosphere and tension created here is central to the plot and character development. If you want bangs, blood and gore, and action rent a Tom Cruise film. If you want to understand the effects of a protracted war on human psychology and character, then this is the movie for you.
