It was always going to be a struggle to pull this trilogy out of the dumpster fire that was "The Last Jedi" and I had already subverted my expectations to a place where no suitable resolution could be found in a single movie. But somehow JJ Abrams managed to repair large parts of the previous movies while delivering a satisfying conclusion that felt like genuine Star Wars. There will be no Oscars for screen play and the material is nothing we haven't seen before but that's fine. The elements that make Star Wars movies great are all here and the balance between taking itself seriously and having fun in spot on. It's a tidy conclusion that sticks to it's original DNA and I found myself wondering what might have been if Abrams had been given control of the second part of this Trilogy. We lost a lot of time in this film as it squeezed the original plot that was tossed out by Rian back in but it still delivered.
