Like a lot of the population after seeing Top Gun: Maverick, I’m on a Miles Teller movie binge. I’ve been a fan since 2013, but when this movie came out I didn’t want to watch it. I was 10 when the 2005 version came out so naturally I wanted to be Jessica Alba and my young heart belonged to Chris Evans, so why would I tarnish that memory? Cut to me now, 27 years old and hasn’t seen F4 2005 in so many years I barely remember it (it helps that Chris Evans has since taken a bigger name in the mcu that people forget where he came from 🔥) so I decided, in my current school girl obsession with Miles Teller, that it was time to watch F4 2015.
I watched half of this movie through my fingers. It was painful. The only redeeming quality this movie has is it’s actors. We all know how good they are, but given a god awful script they can only do so much. I feel like watching this movie on mute would make it more enjoyable. Not only the script, but the entire plot. This movie was entirely build up. I didn’t even know the final fight was happening while it was happening. I had to pause the movie at one point and saw there were only 15 minutes left and I thought, “that can’t be right, nothing has happened yet.” It didn’t even feel like a team effort. It was like they were all just talking and running around and then in one punch it was over. This entire movie felt like that thing where you start typing a really great essay, like really great, and then halfway through you realize the deadline is in an hour so you type up a quick end so at least you can say you finished it and turned it in on time. Truly, truly, awful. I don’t know who wrote this script but I can only hope they’ve improved their storytelling capabilities over the years. I need a palate cleanser. If you need me I’ll be watching a better Miles Teller movie, Two Night Stand. It’s a cheesy little romcom but that’s my bread and butter and it’s FAR less cringe than this superhero movie from wish.
