If you have the IQ of a potato and need to be spoon-fed every detail of what’s happening in a film, then this movie is for you.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it is an irrefutable fact that this movie is a stinker. I’ve never written a review on a movie before, but this was so bad I felt obligated to. In short, the plot and the idea behind the film are solid, but the execution was disappointing to say the least. The dialogue is horrible and forced, the foreshadowing is obvious, the acting was pretty pitiful, there is little to no character development or arc, and the production and editing was just sad. As for the “deeper meaning” other reviews mention - the entire movie is surface level. The meaning can’t be “deeper” when the characters literally say out loud what you should be internalizing and feeling on your own. The movie doesn’t give the audience a chance to draw inferences or have their own interpretations or thoughts because everything is said in plain English. This film was lazy, boring, and borderline comical due to how bad it was. Thankfully, I watched it for free on HBO, so it didn’t cost me anything but an hour and 48 minutes of life - the irony lol.
Old is easily one of the WORST movies I’ve ever seen and likely will ever see. You can honestly tell within the first 5 minutes how bad it’s going to be based on the dialogue and delivery of the lines alone, but I stuck it out hoping it would improve. It did not. I looked up the reviews in the middle of it and was shocked to find the 5 star reviews. Anything above 3 is a stretch and I believe a 1 star review is fair.
