I am generally a Coen Bros. fan. Not just the big ones, like Fargo, or The Big Lebowski, or O Brother Where Art Thou?, but also some of their lesser known movies. However, this one really bored me for the most part. I'm older, and I am familiar with the late 40's early 50's era of Hollywood that the film attempts to lampoon, but it just wasn't that funny, and it lost my attention multiple times. Bright spots were Channing Tatum's Navy dance scene...very authentic and cool. Alden Ehrenreich was fun to watch and hardly recognizable from the Solo Star Wars movie. The rest was forgettable and dull. Big names like Clooney and Johansson were little more than window dressing. I'm sure they like appearing in these types of indy-feel movies as part of an ensemble, but don't go in thinking they're the stars of this despite Clooney's face on the advertising. Brolin I like, and he wasn't bad in this, just there. Not nuanced in my opinion....but kind of dull. Watch it expecting Coen Brother's quirkiness, but not executed to their best, with wandering plotlines, and a few bright spots, and you have Hail, Caesar!
