One of the best novels by possibly the greatest American writer. The beauty of this book is its subtle depth. So many themes are woven through a seemingly basic story of friendship and love. I’ve always been moved by the opening and closing pages - a literal opening and closing of a door - the scene at the end is the same as the start - however the reader has been taken on an emotional (joyful, funny, sad, vengeful) journey which, despite ending at the same place as the start, stays with you forever. If you read this as a teen, have a other read as an adult. Its perfect.
