A psychological study about a young woman’s decent into madness, driven by her religious fanaticism. She is strained between her beliefs which are in conflict with her sexual desires. As a palliative care nurse, Maud projects her new found puritanical ideology upon her new patient, a cancer ridden choreographer intent on extracting every ounce of life out of the time she has left.
The problem for me is that I didn’t care about the character of Maud, as you were aware from the early scenes that this wasn’t going to end well. I felt annoyed that such a sick person was in the community, rather than getting treatment. The plot was meticulous and intelligent, but I wasn’t being entertained. I was watching a ticking time bomb sharing a screen with characters that I did empathise with, which wasn’t a pleasant experience.
