I couldn't emphasize more how Jed's books had an impact on me.
Spiritual enlightenment is not about being something or going anywhere but shedding off the falsehood of self and burn off the non-truth, and whatever is left is the truth.
Jed didn't offer many methods, but self autolysis, a compass, and some marks on the journey of self-discovery (or no-self discovery). It is about dissecting oneself and break the false chain of logical reasoning and throw away false assumptions like peeling onion skin off layer by layer. Eventually, you see the truth inside, which is no-self. The so-called "I" is merely a delusion of a compilation of inherited genetic characteristics, social norms, cultural influences, personal experience, and a set of beliefs that we picked up along the way.
Spiritual Enlightenment is not about bliss, not striving to be an extraordinary being, not love, not meditation, not mystical experiences, nothing, but dissolving and burn away the untruth. It's like Zen Buddhism's saying, dispel the cloudiness and see the Sun. The Sun, the truth, is always there; it's merely the overcast murky thoughts that clouded our minds. Being Enlightened is not about seeking out or learning anything new; it's looking inward and unlearning the false beliefs.
