This book was very disappointing for several reasons. Let me just start by saying that I am not homophobic or a gay-hater. One of my closest friends was part of LGBT. While I disagreed with her beliefs, we were still great friends and I always respected her. I hate it when people judge or make fun of gay people, and I wish that they could learn to respect their dignity. In addition, I love Tui's books. Absolutely. They are some of my most favorite ever, and I want to clarify that this review's score is only for the last three books. However, I want to say that I (and I'm not the only one) disliked these books because of the batant use of controversial material. I am a Christian, and so I am strongly against the idea of LGBT (NOT the members/people). It is not okay to fill up CHILDREN'S books with that amount of highly controversial material that could offend so many people. To clarify. I believe in freedom of belief, the press, etc. Tui absolutely has every right to her opinions. BUT, I think she should have considered the audience. If she wants to speak about her opinions or publish them with adults as the target audience, that's fine. But these books are mainly read by 4-8th graders. Their religions, culture, and families mat be offended or upset by this material, and the children may be banned from reading those books. It is not fair to say "Well, if you don't like it, stop reading." Many people love these books a lot but do not like the topics unnecessarily added into them, and they don't want to stop reading them any more than you would if a book went against your beliefs. It might do some people good to read this Bible quote: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Look into some writings by Edward Sri.
Even without the LGBT elements, this book and this arc was disappointing. In the book, there is almost no action, and half the time Luna was in a cave. I didn't like how humans got so deep into the story. one of the most attractive things about the series was that it was from the point of view of dragons. This whole arc lacks in the intricacy, suspense, action, and entertaining romances found in the other two arcs. The other books had love triangles, battles, adventures, exploring, mysteries, ancient history, magic, and much more. The lost continent books are mainly about dragons talking flying around and the actual bad guy is a couple corpses that were easy to defeat. The neverending talk of peace and rainbow and no judgement and equality got boring fast. I liked that the dragons always fought for a better future, but i want to read about the fighting for it. Flamesilk was an important theme throughout the arc, but it never ended up doing anything other than causing trouble and making light. Queen wasp, a much better villain than the actual othermind, was never dealt with in a satisfying way. We never see any action with the blue/cricket thing either. many key points in the arc are just skimmed over as well. There is almost zero violence in a book about DRAGONS. Just think back to the days of the dragonets and queen scarlet.
