A Disastrous Script!
In their attempt to expand on a masterpiece, they ended up ruining a classic. The writers clearly had no respect for the original, tearing it apart in the worst way possible. Tim Burton should never have approved this script nostalgia alone isn’t enough to save this disaster.
Spoilers Below:
What was the point of the soul-sucker character? It added nothing to the plot. At first, I thought she might become a major antagonist, but in the end, she just existed to prevent a wedding. Sure, the visual effects of the victims being absorbed were cool, but that’s about it. What a waste of potential. The plot itself was a jumbled mess: we had not one but two dead dads, a dead boy, a mother and daughter clashing, and the daughter somehow gaining the ability to see ghosts with no real explanation. It felt thrown together with no cohesion.
There are countless other ridiculous moments, but listing them all would take forever. The actors did their best with what they were given, but even their performances couldn’t save this corny, rushed script. Hollywood desperately needs to invest in better writing. It feels like every film nowadays is either a superhero franchise or a lazy remake of something successful. Please, Hollywood, respect your audience. We pay good money to see these films, and we deserve quality storytelling, not recycled ideas.
I rated this 2 only because it was nice to see the old cast together again. Hopefully, if enough people stop supporting these big budget failures, we’ll see a return to the golden age of storytelling, like when Beetlejuice. was first made.
