Just watched Shroud for a Nightingale. The actor playing Dalgleish was similar to how I had pictured the character from the book, if a little diffident. However the sargeant in particular was totally out of place, in his manner and the language. In PD James' book there is no sex in the car, or mention of porn, etc.
This was one of my favourite PD James books, all of which I've read. The story and characters were far more complex than this squashed two episode programme allowed. A little disappointing.
The Black Tower is a much better adaptation than Shroud for a Nightingale. Very atmospheric, and close to the book. No annoying, rude sargeant.
