🎬 Bun Butter Jam – review
Bun Butter Jam* tries to explore modern love through a youthful lens, but ends up delivering a confused message wrapped in clichés. The film attempts to define love and lust according to its own whims, often mistaking infatuation and betrayal as “Gen Z love.” The narrative suggests that leaving one person and quickly falling for another is today’s reality — but what’s more disturbing is how casually it handles sensitive themes like friendship and trust.
One of the major plot points — where a boy falls for his friend’s girlfriend and she instantly reciprocates — feels not just unrealistic, but irresponsible. It leaves us wondering, *“What a terrible thing, Saravana,”* and yet, the film celebrates it as if it's a bold new trend, calling it “Gen Z Life.”
Whether it’s Gen Z life, X-life, or Z-life — emotions remain the same. The film fails to treat them with the depth and respect they deserve.
On the performance side, Raju, the lead actor, clearly draws inspiration from actor Vijay’s early career, mimicking his style and expressions. While his comic timing works in a few places, much of it feels like imitation rather than originality.
The story had the potential to become a meaningful romantic drama, but the shallow treatment and inconsistent tone reduce it to yet another forgettable love story
