Joaquin Phoenix delivered, as he does. The musical piece was weird and off putting. There wasn’t a storyline, and I am leaving the theatre so confused and disappointed on opening night.
I thought this was strategically being released ahead of the election like the last, to create that feeling of political unrest and chaos we were feeling at the time — not even close to the case.
I’m so disappointed. Joaquin is safe in my eyes, but to everyone who produced and worked on this movie, it was an absolute dud. If the first Joker wasn’t so legendary, this one would almost cheapen it. I DO NOT recommend.
I was such a massive fan of the first Joker with the sociopolitical tropes, the conversation on mental health, the epidemic of loneliness, impacts of trauma and PTSD, etc. Joker 2 had none of it. Made no sense. Again, can’t emphasize enough how disappointed I am.
