As a woman and mother to a girl child who just turned 14,this doc evoked every emotion, I was angry at the villages how backwards they are, happy with the parents and the baby girl made me cry when the father was crying it broke me!I almost did not watch the whole thing especially when mh baby girl was rehearsing what to say in court,my heart broke.
The father surprised me I though he might back down, after being ridicule and shamed the love of his daughter made him endure it all and he is an example to those villagers!
As a South African the laws are much tighter in such cases but the mentality is still the same!Even though no one will force you to marry off your child but some people will still ask to settle out of court especially in rural areas.
The campaigns and programs that the government and NGO's have put into place seem to fall into deaf ears at times.
It was shocking how similar the attitude of the people is in such cases even though we are so far apart.
I watched this with my daughter ,it gave me an opportunity to explain to her what RAPE is.
I hope they made some money with this documentary and moved away from that village with those evil people, and I hope my baby finishes school and becomes something great, who knows maybe one day she will fall in love and marry someone of her choice that will cherish her, if she chooses to marry. She is my hero!
