I grew up during the Vietnam war - the first TV war - and the antiwar movement firmed my life and outlook. Having recently visited Vietnam I am so grateful for Max Hastings profound remembrance which brings to life what was clearly a living hell. As Colonel Kurtz famously said in that other masterful reflection on Vietnam Apocalypse Now, "The horror, the horror. . . "
