The annoying ticking clock at the beginning of this film almost made me turn it off before the movie started. After sitting through this movie, I wished I had never wasted my time watching it. I know they are college professors, but giving them the big vocabulary words didn't make them sound smart. Julia and Chloe are made to look old and grumpy like cause I guess all old female college professors are like that? They portray Julia's professor as someone just going through the motions. She doesn't seem to really care about her husband, her job, her friends, her teaching assistant, her house cleaner. There's nothing to like about Andrew Garfield's character. The guy who plays Julia's husband is just creepy. The movie attempts to make commentary on the movie's subject. But it all falls flat. The Maggie character is not someone you like and at some point you cease to care if it happened or not. Though the movie might have been better had it taken a stand instead of leaving so much up in the air. But what really struck me was the lack of respect for privacy. Maggie searches through the bathroom cabinet, Julia's character searches thru her friend's purse and later her office drawers. And I don't know why the director is so focused on everyone's hands when they are having talks. It's very strange. The movie goes on too long and there's no point to it. And the Julia's character illness that's a mystery until too far into the movie is just distracting. Many have mentioned the music.. and it also is annoying and there is really no reason for it. Basically, this is a film who's ads were more interesting than the film. It is very much a total waste of time.
