Its obvious that a movie cannot do a book such as The Original Pride and Prejudice itself justice, but I believe it was a fairly good attempt. Though I believe the book is still a better read than the movie is a watch, for the book elucidates perfectly how Elizabeth undergoes the transition of emotions through the course of the story contrary to the sudden switch of impression as portrayed hastily by the movie. Also when you read the book, the mental image formed sets a benchmark of expectations from the movie, which at least in my case, the movie didn't live up to. I was really expecting Darcy to be more byronic in a Twilight Saga Robert Pattinson way than a middle aged Severus Snape way. Also they got rid of certain characters and scenes which I believe they did very wisely. However, I admire the director for doing the best he could within the short length of the movie, which truly was inadequate to build up hatred against Wickham or to build up love for Darcy or to even build up admiration for Collin's indispensable civility and respect for Lady Catherine and subtle contempt and irritability for his narcissism or haughtiness. But again, a movie can do only so much in its capacity as to establish a basic plot of the story, which may lack the substance or feel that emancipates from the elaborate writing that can only be found in the book. There are certain aspects where my stand is ambiguous such as the producer's choice of strictly sticking to the script that was present in the book without even the most noticeable alterations. I believe it could have been recreated with inspiration from the original book, though I do not have any specific opposition to what the producers did, it certainly did cut down on the expense of a script writer, but well....you know, if you are going to make a movie that may not wholly replicate the book, you might as well have taken an effort to rewrite the script. But regardless it was a decent 3 star watch for me, can be argued as four but certainly not more that that.
