A fantastic show that transcends it's categorization of YA fantasy with complex worldbuilding, nuanced characters, and an abundance of charm. I'm tired of fantasy that insists writing a satisfying and hopeful story isn't interesting. I've seen it called Netflix's answer to Game of Thrones, but I'd even call it an antidote. The Crows are the highlight, but all of the characters and their intertwined arcs are engrossing. As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I hope this show is allowed to tell it's story in full without cancellation or producers forcing it to conform to the tired reliance on shock value and empty "darkness" and "grit". The world we are taken to in Shadow in Bone is not without evil or all to familiar systems of oppression and violence, but this is a story that remembers the heart and purpose of these epic fantasy tales has always been to remind us "that there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for". - J.
