The first episode projected a nicely nuanced personality in Picard. There are indications that the plot may be complex and engaging. Also, special effects were heavy but did not dominate this first episode.
I am concerned that the show is going to have the now seemingly expected contingent of karate-chopping and laser-wielding women. It's predicable, unrealistic, and a pain, but the pc police seem to be everywhere.
I also hope, as do many of the critics, that violence which is not central to the plot is kept out of the show. There's no substitute for intelligent conversation, a richly textured plot, and the mystery that we expect from space and aliens.
