It's about alcoholism. That's why it isn't satisfying at the end in the way you'd expect in a typical format. It's very realistic in terms of how much substance abuse deludes and destroys even the most successful people and Patton Oswalt kills it, grounding the character of Mavis for the viewer.

Worth a watch, it was a decent action movie. Had plenty of typical action - movie moments where you need to suspend your disbelief, but I think it's more blatant now than it was at the time because laypeople have a different standard for realism and expertise in films. Warning, a lot of references and scenes don't hold up and it has a lot of stuff that's that's really not appropriate /acceptable anymore including multiple references to one of the drillers statutory raping a bunch of girls.

Unexpected. Bizarre. Emotional and well paced. Highly recommended
