This book is an example of a writer becoming too confident in him or herself. The whole story screams of “they’ll read it because I wrote it” as it tries to force real world social talking points into a fantasy setting. On that point, I’m reading a fictitious fantasy novel. The main character doesn’t need to be an emotionally scarred and vulnerable person. It’s ok for a heroic leader to be heroic in a general sense. At this pace I would guess that the next novel in the series will see the main protagonists taking anti anxiety meds.
