I had high hopes for this one because of the stellar cast it boasted. I like "dumb" comedy, was a fan of Cheech and Chong, and really pleasantly surprised at Walken's part in The Rundown, hilariously stupid. I found The War With Grandpa to be wanting in so many areas, but the thing that stands out most is it was lacking in basic comedic skills and seemed to center on two immature people simply worshiping their own ability to destroy each other's things. A better way might have been to give us more of their characters first, familiarize us with them, then have each "warrior" use the other's character flaws against him, ie set him up to let his own senseless enthusiasm for "revenge" backfire on him and destroy his own things. Admittedly, I didn't finish the thing, they may have gotten to "the point" eventually, but I became irritated with it and gave up. Maybe they should have gotten Stewart or someone who really knows silly comedy like the Stillers to look over it before producing a film.
