This is a TV show that is canon to the Legendary Monsterverse, or in other words, the movies Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla 2014, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs Kong. It delves deep in the secrets of Monarch and how it came to be, as well as the compelling discovery of Godzilla. If you are a Monsterverse lover, and want to know all the lore, I definitely recommend. It definitely fills in a lot of gaps and gives the audience an interesting plot.
However, if you're like me and came to this show looking for cool monster fights like those from the Godzilla movies, you came to the wrong place. After having just finished the series, I counted Godzilla himself only having showed up about five times, and not for very long in any of those scenes. Of course, the show isn't called "Godzilla: Legacy of Monsters" by any means, but I was still kind of disappointed because this show was more of a teenage drama than anything. I mean, why is anyone a big fan of this franchise in the first place if it isn't for the giant, awesome monsters?
Now, I was originally going to rate it two stars when I was about halfway through the show and wasn't planning on finishing, but something in me said I should try to see it all the through, so I did. I ended up finishing it, and I guess the show earned itself one extra star, because while there weren't a lot of epic battles and big monsters, the story and characters had me hooked. I really did get interested in the drama that I had at first thought boring, once I accepted the fact that show was indeed not about out favorite anti-hero, Godzilla.
So, in the end, it was not what I was looking for or expecting by any means, and not my favorite at all, but all I can suggest is give it a shot and you might be sucked into the story anyway, just like I was.
A side not, though: If you stick it through, there is a little fun monster battle near the end! Makes it worth it.
