Giving 3 stars because I love the message of the book and I think it translates decently into the movie.
I read the book pretty quickly, it was very easy to read. Lots of twists and turns. Some predictable some not. There were moments I rolled my eyes, lots of cringey parts but I appreciated it for a younger audience. I feel like if I wouldโve read this book as a teenager I wouldโve absolutely loved it. As an adult, eh I wouldโve loved better vocabulary, and substance to the characters and relationships.
The movie I barely got through. I think they couldโve done a better job portraying her mom and younger Lily and Atlasโs relationship. I feel like in the movie you kind of forget his part of the story. I pictured Atlas looking more rugged and in the movie he looks pretty cleaned up.
The final violent scene in the book didnโt match up in the movie in my eyes. I was expecting it to be harder to watch and I guess I understand why they may have censored it but I was disappointed that they definitely didnโt match up. The entire book I pictured Ryle being so different than what he was in the movie. It felt more romcom and not like the drama it was intended to be.
