Bonding is an underated knockout. Truly one of the most entertaining short series I've ever had the pleasure of binging. Genuinely great humor, heartfelt friendships, genuinely interesting plot and hook and amazing character growth. May even be a lesson in there somewhere for all of us. Granted one definitely needs to be a bit open minded while watching the show. It is based around the BDSM world as the main character is a dominatrix. Despite the show being heavily and primarily based on the lifestyle of a dominatrix and her not so obedient gay best friend, it's not nasty or too raunchy. Many times shows based around sexual nature are incredibly sour with raunchy "humor" and just don't add up to much in my opinion, and just aren't that funny to me. This show was different. Honestly despite the main theme, one could say this show demonstrated the individual character growth of a broken person and a very lonely one and how they met somewhere in the middle and both ended up learning what they needed and more. The dominatrix and the gay comedian. Both of which end up discovering what they truly want out of life in the end. I wish I could say they come together in the end but if there's anything negative I could say about this show is its' abrupt and unsatisfying ending being that it was cancelled and it ended with their friendship ending after some serious growth between them. It didn't add up to me. They'd both been through this adventure together and grew and the outcome was just not okay with me. But aside from that, I adored the show. Trouble is, it ending along with their friendship would make it difficult for me to watch it again. Even if it was entertaining, it was incredibly disappointing that they ended their friendship over stuff that could have been resolved with a swallow of pride and an honest conversation. Their relationship development through the show was too good for how it ended.
In other news, there won't be a third season. I'm still not entirely sure why, I don't know if there wasn't enough of a fan base or if Netflix is just being Netflix and killing what's good per usual. But it's a shame because I think a season 3 would be necessary. We could see how Tiff and Pete's relationship patches up, if it does. How well Pete's doing on the late show, and honestly I want to know what Tiff and the girls' new space would look like when they finished. But nonetheless, it was canceled. Leaving us with all of that growth they both did as individuals and as friends flushed down the toilet, deeming itself useless in the end being that they ended their friendship. What was the point of all that character development and friendship growth if a little spat would split them apart? A shame that ending! Otherwise good show.
