MANIKARNIKA- " Scintillating Kangana Ranaut shines as Rani Lakshmibai in this raw and uncooked biopic."
Rating 2.75*/5
Manikarnika encapsulates the life of an unorthodox warrior Rani Lakshmibai who goes beyond the standards of rituals, caste, power and legacy to protect her motherland and Kangana Ranaut portrays this character with 1000% justice. She gets into the shoe of Rani Lakshmibai is such a way that one will feel as if the Rani Manikarnika herself is there on the screen. From her girlish attitude to her queen's stature, from her motherhood to her warrior personality, Kangana ranaut impresses with all the aspects of her character. She is the strongest part of the film. As a director, Kangana ranaut fails to bind the audience. From the start itself, film seems to be disoriented and it continues to be till the first half. Second half of the films some how manages to pick the pace and Kangana Ranaut from there is unbelievable as an actress. Other actors like Ankita lokhande,Vaibhav T, Suresh Oberoi, kulbhushan , Mohammad ayyub Zeeshan and others have played their part well. Screenplay is penned by Vijayprasad sir of fame bahubali and bajrangi bhaijaan. This time his writing has not been up to the mark especially the first half. Prasoon Joshi deserves appreciation for his mature dialogue writing. Music by Shankar- ehsaan- loy is average. None of the songs will remain in your mind after leaving the theatre. VFx of the film is a big let down. Movie of such kind of genre needs heavy VFx for making it seem real and natural. A bit of more emphasis on VFx and crisp crafting of first half would have made this movie a flawless one. One should definitely watch this movie for witnessing the life of brave Rani Lakshmibai and Kangana Ranaut's strong performance as Manikarnika.
