I have been sober for 36 years and have seldom seen such a compassionate renndering of the long road to clearing the demons which are the "causes and conditions" of our addiction. So often there are mental health conditions which co-exist with our substance use which demand attention -once the brain is defogged in sobriety. Cummerbatch takes us on that dramatic ordeal brilliantly. I suffered through it right along with Patrick Melrose and prayed for his recovery from Eisode One. True sobriety is often preceded by relapses and/or despair; the harrowing nature of the fight to reach it is what sets Melrose apart from so many sanitized versions of the subject. Thank you for this memorable and incredibly well filmed, written and acted series. Barbara M.
