I wanna start by saying that, honestly, if I were to rate this game solely on its merits, I'd give it a solid 4 stars. However, I'm choosing to award it 5 stars to counterbalance the unwarranted review bombing it's received.
All in all, this game does NOT deserve the negativity it's gotten from some corners of the internet. It's a really solid addition to the Star Wars gaming repertoire that provides hours of enjoyable gameplay for fans of the franchise—it genuinely offers a fun & immersive experience into the galaxy far, far away.
As a massive Star Wars fan, I found myself constantly in awe of the beautifully crafted open world, filled with familiar sights and sounds that made me feel like I was living out my own Star Wars adventure. The game excels at creating a sandbox experience that encourages exploration and rewards curiosity. Each planet feels unique and alive, with plenty of side quests and hidden secrets to discover. The attention to detail in the environments—from seedy cantinas to opulent palaces—is impressive.
While the game leans heavily into stealth gameplay, it's executed well and fits the narrative of being an outlaw trying to survive in a galaxy controlled by the Empire. The stealth mechanics add tension and strategy to missions, making you feel like a clever scoundrel always one step ahead of the law. When gun fights do inevitably ensue, they’re entertaining and can definitely get your heart rate up.
That said, there are a few quirks in the gameplay. The ability to knock out Stormtroopers, enemies, etc. with a punch to the head/helmet feels unrealistic (imo Kay should wield a taser or something), and sometimes firefights don't attract the attention you'd expect (a shootout within hearing distance can go unnoticed by NPC’s). Occasionally, finding your way into bases can be tricky, with some unintended parkour required to find the right path. However, these minor issues don't significantly detract from the overall experience.
If you're a Star Wars enthusiast looking for an immersive open-world experience that lets you live out your nerd fantasies, don't hesitate to pick up Star Wars Outlaws. It's not perfect, but it's a fantastic adventure that captures the spirit of Star Wars in a way that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
