Victory City by Salman Rushdie is a novel about Pampa Kampana than about the Vijayanagara Empire of the 15th century. The author using his magical wand (words) has taken the readers to the world of fairy tale, yet he has tried to fix us in the world of reality which is certainly an utopian dream. Many exaggerated incidents such as 'an empire from seeds, whispering memory into the ears of people and the king, travelling in the air invisible using the 'cheel' feather', etc. are beyond reality. However the magical feminism of the novel is worth mentioning, yet that itself reflects the contemporary society and nothing is new. And so the author has failed to take us to future.... and also the position of women in the future society.
