DELAYED INPUTS IN A GAME THAT REQUIRES PRECISION.
Every button input this game has, has some form of delay on it. It varies from your dodge being a half second to come out after you've lifted your finger off the button to a full second of holding a button before you start sprinting.
Press a button too fast and you input will also get eaten.
Why this matters?
This game has you fighting enemies that deal huge amounts of damage to you and do not stop attacking. It's a bosh rush in an open world. The game is challenging. But it's controls worsen the challenge by creating an artificial barrier that does not need to be there.
The dodge, backstep, and run are all bound to 1 button.
Tap to dodge/backstep, hold to run. Why is this a problem?
You can try dodging through a move but your dodge doesn't even come out for a full half second AFTER you've lifted your finger off the button. You press the button before an attack hits, you get hit, yet your dodge will come out after you've gotten hit. This isn't an issue in other games that require you to dodge as it dodges when you press the button down. This delay makes timing dodges incredibly difficult and adds an ARTIFICIAL difficulty to the game.
Running away from an attack also has a delay. Hold the button to start sprinting but your character won't start sprinting for a full second. I'm not saying your character transitioning into a run animation takes a full second. No, your character will literally not run until that second of holding the button as passed.
Want to run away from an attack but only have a second to move? Good luck cause your sprint won't even come out until after that second.
This game is hard, but not for the right reasons. I feel like I'm battling the controls cause none of my moves come out when I need them too. Instead of fighting the monster I'm fighting the delay. If that's not bad game design I don't know what is. No other game that REQUIRES PRECISION does this.
A fix for this would be to make dodge come out on press, and have sprint be remappable to a separate button.
