I wanted to like this show, and there are SOME likable things about it. That said, the plot is tired. It seems like every survival or post apocalyptic/scorched Earth based show goes out of its way to create and sustain as much conflict as possible. As usual, you have certain characters.
For example, you got the tough, grizzled leader guy. You got the immediate subordinate who disagrees and/or sees weakness in the leader, and spends the whole time trying to covertly usurp him/her. You got the rebel, who just doesn't give a gosh darn about adhering to rules or doing things for the greater good, and his/her actions keep the divisiveness the size of a chasm (typically liked by half the audience, hated by the other half). You got the guy who feels like he's not being treated fairly or getting enough credit (can also be the rebel guy). You got the reckless, 'dangerous', irrational guy, who takes everything too lightly (gets killed off early sometimes). You got the by-the-book, morally centered character, who's usually some representation of the leadership. You got a MacGyver type, who can fix anything, or hack any computer, or take a rock, some glue, a rope, and confetti, and maple syrup and...weaponize all that somehow, or make a communication device.
Ok, so you're trying to find out if Earth is habitable again, following nearly 100 years after a nuclear war (one probably caused by many of the aforementioned type of characters). You'd think of ALL scenarios or reasons to work together as humans, THIS would be it. But...naaaaah. We gotta inject some conflict. No way we want this to go smoothly. Every level there is in-fighting. Every day. Usually dumb, and does more harm than good.
On a virtual new, possibly hostile, possibly radioactive Earth? Oh, no problem. Let's prance around carelessly and jump into potentially contaminated waters. No problem. I'll turn off my self preservation button here, aaaand let's go. While we're at it, let's make a lot of noise and attract any dangerous animals and let them know we're here.
