You absolutely need to be a big fan of war movies to watch this. It doesn't hold back on the grisly realities of certain situations and certainly doesn't romanticise war, it's very different from the majority of war movies. Each of the main characters' personalities is really well portrayed. The setting is excellent and the plot is really suspenseful. I enjoyed it.

Excellent portrayal of the suffering and hardship of prisoners of war. Well-told from all angles. Superbly acted by all of the cast, particularly Ciarán McMenamin. No punches pulled in portraying violence but also shows compassion.

I've always loved British/Irish police dramas and Blue Lights is right up there with the best. The only disappointment in Season 1 for me was the killing off of Gerry. What a great character! His relationship with Sandra, his protectiveness towards his partner and his childhood friend, and his dry humour were all brilliant. The icing on the cake for me was his love of country music (Kris Kristofferson especially) and the fact that he was played by the lovely Richard Dormer.
