I could not finish the book.
The writing style was really not for me, there was too many moments where I was taken out of the immersion (... "My bowels went watery"...).
I came from a beautifully written adventure fantasy before starting this, it likely did not help in forming a good opinion of this book.
I believed it had good promise, a solid 3/5, say chapters 1-17. I read this quickly and I overlooked the flaws I was finding.
It soon became a drag afterwards and theres only so many immersion breaking moments I am willing to take.
After reading some reviews that are not 5/5, I found I was agreeing with the reasoning of these lower scores more.
I dropped the book and decided to start a different fairy lore book (that is said to not be spicy).
I give this 1/5 because, utlimately, I could not finish it.
The series is evidently very popular, I'll give the TV show a try if it can fix the flaws I found.
I say feel free to give it a try, though maybe go into it with the outlook of 'comfy junk food reading' than an adventure with lessons learned.
In hindsight, I wish I bought it second hand!
