Oh my, where to start…? [mild spoilers ahead]
I’m a huge fan of sci-fi, more than happy with fantasy, and have really enjoyed what Marvel have been creating over the past decade or more…until this…I can’t actually believe it is Marvel…
So many new characters, not a problem in itself and am sure they all exist in their own right in the Marvel Universe, but what was the point of half of them?
And we’re seriously meant to believe that, being thousands of years old, they’d all be so incredibly shallow and lacking in any kind of gravitas? - I’ve never seen so much boring internal naval gazing in one film…
And as for some massive dormant Celestial being ‘born’ from within the planet…? - the sci-fi geek in me has a pretty (very) open mind - I WANT these things to work and am prepared to believe and imagine A LOT…but this? It half erupting from the ocean with no mention on the catastrophic effects it would have on the Earth’s crust? It’s magnetic core? No mention of the horrific tidal waves it would cause? Nothing from the 7 billion humans inhabiting the planet noticing something slightly amiss, simply a ‘2 weeks later’ scene…I’m sorry, no amount of me trying to be on board with that story-line worked at all (unless perhaps I’d fallen asleep to miss those explanations, quite possible…)
I love a good monster but the Deviants were probably the least scary thing I’ve seen created for some time; special effects that looked more like cartoons and not in the least bit scary…we all knew they’d be defeated…
I watched it through to the bitter end; normally much anticipated end credits..? well I won’t even go there but are we seriously meant to believe that was Thanos’ brother..? Completely wrong vibe.
I was bored to the finish line, only stayed the course because it was family movie night and even my children, both die hard Marvel fans, we left utterly bemused and unimpressed to say the least.
Huge plot holes and desperate attempts to join up with what has gone before but failing on every level.
So sorry, I could go on and I’m not normally one to be this negative, and rarely write reviews, but this was BAD…
